D is for Dinosaur: Meet the Dinosaurs! Day 1

D is for Dinosaur-Part 1

We are starting a MEGA Unit on Dinosaurs. Since we have soooo many activities planned we are going to go with the flow...ie. not a set amount of items to be completed in a single day. We are going to explore and see where our learning takes us....so some activities will likely spill over in to the following day(s)

Here is what was waiting for Mia when she got home from the cabin....just a little something to get her excited to start our unit on dinosaurs!!!

Our little baby dinos....waiting to hatch!

Amelia chose to do the Counting Cards first (I think it was the dinosaur manipulatives that caught her attention =)

Dinosaur Puzzles: I mixed up all the pieces so she has to sort them before putting them together.
This is just a quick reference on dinosaurs. It has the dinosaur pictured with brief facts. Perfect for introducing dinosaurs to little ones =)
 D is for Dinosaur!

Amelia didn't want to wait to do this giant floor puzzle. I had planned for it next week...but oh well! Here Evan is 'helping'

 Letter D Identification: Do-a-Dot:
 Dinosaur Shadow Match:

Which one is Different? AND Dinosaur Name Tracing

DINOSAUR Spelling:

Dinosaur Counting with Blocks: We started out by placing blocks on each dinosaur. And then while we transferred the blocks to the graph below we counted out loud. This was a very success learning activity!

Listening & Following Directions:

Baby Dinosaur Egg Dig!!!! We started by reading the book, Meet the Dinosaurs, and then we dug in!

And then the wind came up...Wind and Cloud Dough DO NOT mix so we headed inside....

Amelia matching up the dinosaurs to their identification cards. I made these cards and boy were they a pain...but the end result was totally worth it!!!

Amelia making her Amelia-o-saurus!

Evan making his Evan-o-saurus! The only truly non-toxic/safe art medium I could think of was sweet potato puree =)

Amelia helping Evan 'paint'

Mia has been BEYOND excited for this egg.....she thinks a real dinosaur is going to hatch even though I keep telling her that dinosaurs are extinct. She replies, "Mommy, we'll just have to wait and see!"

Tonight was a special treat! Ahmmy came over to play (babysit while Mommy & Daddy had a date night =) Anyways, Amelia and Ahmmy made Dinosaur Fossil Cookies!
